Art Jakarta 2025: Explore Global Contemporary Art at JIExpo Kemayoran

The Art Jakarta 2025 visual arts fair is back once again. This major art event will take place from October 3 to 5, 2025, at JIExpo Kemayoran, showcasing a lineup of artworks that inspire optimism and energize the visual arts industry. Art Jakarta 2025 features 75 leading galleries from 16 countries across Asia and beyond.

Among the international galleries participating are Esther Schipper, a prominent European art gallery headquartered in Berlin, with operations in Paris, New York, and Seoul. There’s also Kaikai Kiki, an art institution founded by renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Additionally, Tina Keng Gallery from Taipei joins the lineup—a visual arts gallery that has established itself as a key institution in Asia, thanks to its track record of introducing works by leading artists from Taiwan and China to the global art community.

Similar to previous editions of Art Jakarta, this year’s event includes several segments offering stimulating perspectives on contemporary visual arts. One highlight is the Spot area, which serves as a dedicated exhibition space for works by Indonesian artists across various mediums. This includes Ipeh Nur’s piece titled “Ombak Belum Tidur” (Waves Not Yet Asleep), which won the Feature Generation Art Awards last year. Art Jakarta 2025 marks Ipeh Nur’s first local stage appearance. Another standout is the installation by Aditya Novali, which is the largest at Art Jakarta 2025. Titled “Object Permanence (intro),” this installation stands at 5.4 meters tall.

Meanwhile, Art Jakarta 2025 collaborates with three Indonesian brands that add a unique flair to the visual arts fair. For instance, Bibit features a work by painter Agus Suwage titled “Potret Diri dan Panggung Sandiwara” (Self-Portrait and Theatrical Stage). Released in 2019, this piece presents 60 emotional portraits within the narrative of “Portrait of Possibilities,” inspired by Indonesia’s current challenges.

In addition to Bibit, Treasury plays a role by presenting an installation themed “Reserve of Care” by the artist duo Azizi Al Majid and Nuri Fatimah. Through this work, the pair—along with Treasury—aims to emphasize instilling values in future generations starting from the home. The dining table serves as the medium to convey four pillars: Shelter, Wealth, Care, and Love. Visitors will be invited to interact through activities at the table, bringing the artwork to life.

Beyond showcasing 75 galleries from 16 countries, this year’s Art Jakarta introduces a new booth from the National Talent Management (MTN) for Arts and Culture, presented by the Ministry of Culture. Through the “Arus Baru” (New Currents) art exhibition curated by Agung Hujatnika, six young research- and experiment-based artists are displaying their works. They are Dzikra Afifah, Iwan Yusuf, Mariam Sofrina, Natasha Tontey, Syaiful Garibaldi, and Uji Hahan Handoko.
